Pupil Voice

School Council

Here at The Laurels, we encourage all children to have “a voice” . To encourage this we have a group of children from all year groups who meet, discuss and make decisions on behalf of the whole school.  They represent their class and help Miss Shanahan and Mrs de Carteret to make decisions which involve the pupils here at school.

The children  work on different projects such as becoming a more environmentally friendly school or improving the playground and then we feed back the ideas they come up with to the Governors.

The children really love being involved in the school council and making decisions about the school, how it is run and how fundraising money could be spent. This teaches them responsibility and the ability to listen and debate with others. School council members are elected each academic year. This year the members are:

School Prefects

Here at the Laurels Primary School we feel strongly about helping the children at our school to become helpful, responsible citizens.   We are giving all of the children in KS2 (years 3, 4, 5 and 6) an opportunity to ‘apply’ to become a school helper.  This may include helping in the office or in the library or becoming a reading buddy to younger children.  They will have a job description and will be expected to fulfil their new role to the best of their ability.  We also hope they will have fun and feel proud of themselves.

If they are a good role model and work hard at their role they will become a Bronze prefect and will wear a bronze star on their jumper.  They can then work towards becoming Silver and finally a Gold prefect.  Gold prefects will be rewarded with a special outing at the end of the year. Please see the attached Prefect Booklet for more information.
