Year 6 | The Laurels Primary School

Year 6

Year 6 begins by stepping back to World War 2. Children take on a character from the era and look at the development from 1939 – 1945 through the eyes of an 11 year old evacuee. Henry Moore is our stimulus for art where children re-create the famous air raid shelter scene through sculpture, meanwhile we spend time exploring different areas of the era including evacuation, home front, holocaust and Propaganda. English is based around the text ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’ and ‘Anne Frank’s diary.

Spring term’s topic is Evolution. We begin by focusing on the work of Charles Darwin and Anne Manning and follow the voyage of the Beagle to the Galapagos islands. Year 6 work in small groups to present their work during the topic and share this in a final ‘WOW’ finish.

The second half of the Spring term focuses on the SATs tests.
